The base Sun & Moon set
The set that started the era, Sun & Moon (172 cards, February 2017), is best known for its Eeveelution GX cards. The chase card is the secret-rare Umbreon GX (#154) — typically the most valuable single in the set — followed by Espeon GX (#152) and the Lillie full-art trainer. You can see the full ranked list, with each card’s live value, on the Sun & Moon card list.
Where the value sits
Across the Sun & Moon era, the money concentrates in a few places:
- Shiny Vault cards in Hidden Fates and the shining Pokémon in Shining Legends — small sets, big chase cards.
- Rainbow and gold secret rares in the large late-era sets: Unified Minds and Cosmic Eclipse.
- Alternate-art and full-art trainers across every set.
Set size doesn’t equal value — a 69-card set like Hidden Fates can hold pricier singles than a 271-card set. The only reliable way to know a card’s worth is its current market price.
How to check what your Sun & Moon cards are worth
Two ways:
- Browse — open any set’s card list in the Poke - Deck card database, sort by price, and every card shows its collector number, rarity and live Cardmarket value.
- Scan — with Poke - Deck on iPhone, point your camera at a card and it identifies it in English, French or Japanese and shows its value instantly, then adds it to a collection whose total updates automatically.

Frequently asked questions
How many Pokémon Sun & Moon sets are there?
The English Sun & Moon era ran 15 main expansions from February 2017 to November 2019: Sun & Moon, Guardians Rising, Burning Shadows, Shining Legends, Crimson Invasion, Ultra Prism, Forbidden Light, Celestial Storm, Dragon Majesty, Lost Thunder, Team Up, Unbroken Bonds, Unified Minds, Hidden Fates and Cosmic Eclipse — plus promos and special sets.
Which Sun & Moon set is the most valuable?
Hidden Fates and Shining Legends hold their value best thanks to their Shiny Vault and shining Pokémon subsets, and Cosmic Eclipse and Unified Minds contain sought-after rainbow and gold rares. But value sits at the card level, not the set level — check each set's live prices on its card-list page.
What is the most expensive Sun & Moon base set card?
In the base Sun & Moon set, the secret-rare Umbreon GX (#154) is the standout chase card, typically the priciest single in the set, followed by Espeon GX and the Lillie full art. Exact prices move with the market — the current Cardmarket value is shown on the Sun & Moon card-list page.
How do I find out what my Sun & Moon cards are worth?
Scan them with Poke - Deck, or browse the set's card list on poke-deck.app: each card shows its collector number, rarity and live Cardmarket value in euros, so you can total up a set or a whole collection.
How many cards are in the Sun & Moon base set?
The base Sun & Moon set (released February 2017) has 172 cards including secret rares. The full checklist with images, numbers, rarities and prices is on its card-list page.
Are Sun & Moon cards worth collecting?
Yes — the era introduced GX cards, full arts, rainbow rares and the Shiny Vault, and many chase cards (Umbreon GX, Charizard GX, the Hidden Fates shinies) remain popular. Condition matters: a near-mint card graded PSA 9–10 can be worth several times a raw copy.
